Professor Mark Battley is the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Performance and Reputation and a Professor in the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Auckland. Prior to this, he was Associate Dean Research for the Faculty of Engineering. His research areas include computational modelling, design and experimental characterisation for materials, structures and fluids, particularly for polymers and fibre reinforced polymer composites. Applications range from high performance sailing yachts to aerospace and rockets and mitigation of wave impacts on coastlines.

Mark is the Deputy Director of the University of Auckland’s Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing and Design, an executive member of the Composites Association of NZ and co-chair of the ASTM D30.09 committee on Sandwich Construction. Mark has also worked at Industrial Research Limited, UniServices and in private engineering consultancy.
