Project supervisors: Dr Tania Cliffe-Tautari & Dr Luke Fitzmaurice
Institution: Waipapa Taumata Rau
Raumati interns: Courtney Smith (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa) & Danielle Matthews (Ngāpuhi)
Project Summary: The internship project will complete a systematic literature review, and related policy brief that explores how trauma impacts Māori youth who offend, and their whānau, and how their lived experiences and Māori approaches can shape law and policy related to youth justice.
The interns will work alongside Dr Tania Cliffe-Tautari (University of Auckland) and Dr Luke Fitzmaurice (Victoria University of Wellington). The internship project will contribute to a Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Matakitenga research project that is exploring how trauma impact Māori youth who offend, and their whānau, and how can their lived experiences and Māori approaches to Trauma Informed Care can shape law and policy related to youth justice to foster whānau flourishing.
The interns will complete a systematic literature review and develop a policy brief based primarily on the literature review. The interns will develop skills in policy analysis and carrying out Official Information Act requests. Dependent on timeframes, the project team will consider the potential of co-writing an article on the findings from the literature review/policy for publication.
